An Albany man was hospitalized after being found unresponsive by Athens County emergency crews on Monday evening following his alleged use of "Deathgrip," which officials say is a synthetic drug.

Sheriff Patrick Kelly said that the man was unresponsive, but breathing when deputies were called to the State Street home around 8 p.m. Another man told deputies that he had bought a substance called "Deathgrip" over the counter from Twilight Boutique, an Athens smoke shop.
