A head-on collision at approximately 5:21 p.m. Monday, Jan. 6 on Route 93 South of Portie Flamingo Road, in Saltlick Twp. claimed the life of 41-year-old Gary W. Vore of Jacksonville.
According to the State Highway Patrol, Vore was traveling southbound on Route 93 when his vehicle, a 1995 Buick LeSabre, went left of center in a curve.
Reports indicate Vore and his passenger, Kyle A. Wright, 18, of New Straitsville, stuck a northbound 2003 Chevrolet Impala, being driven by Linda E. Spangler, 67, of Corning, head-on. Spangler was transported to Grant Medical Center via medical helicopter, where she is listed in critical condition. Spangler had two passengers in her vehicle, Robert F. Spangler, 67, also of Corning, who was flown to Grant Medical Center and listed in critical condition, and Jeremy W. Cox, 24, of Athens. Cox was transported to Good Samaritan Medical Center in Zanesville where he is listed in stable condition.
Vore was pronounced dead at the scene by Perry County Coroner, Dr. Bradley Wilson. His passenger Kyle Wright was transported to Hocking Valley Hospital with minor injuries.
According to the Patrol, alcohol/drug use is unknown at this time. Linda Spangler was wearing her seatbelt at the time of the crash; Vore was not. Seatbelt usage is unknown for the other occupants at this time. The crash remains under investigation.
