- To Cornwell Jewelers, which announced this week it would soon be closing down after more than 180 years in business. The Messenger has a feature story about Cornwell’s history planned for the Sunday newspaper.

- To Canaan Twp., which on Saturday is celebrating its 200th birthday with a meet-and-greet at the township garage. The event will run from 1-4 p.m., with a dedication set for 3 p.m.

- To the recent ranking of Athens being 20th on a list of most bike-friendly towns in America, according to the bicycling foundation PeopleForBikes (see related story on The Messenger’s website).

- As always, to non-voters. Turnout was OK for the recent primary election, but not as high as it could have been — perhaps due to there only being one levy and one other contested race throughout Athens County. Hopefully people will get more involved this fall for the general election.
