- To all of the rescue agencies which responded to the fatal helicopter crash in rural Vinton County. These first responders and investigators have worked extensively — in frigid conditions — to locate and attend to the scene.

- To those which have provided “warming stations” to local residents in need this week, as temperatures have dropped to dangerous levels. We hope the people who needed this service were able to find safe shelter.

- To the many daring participants of the “Reason for the Freezin’” event at Lake Snowden last weekend. The event, akin to a polar plunge, raised thousands of dollars toward Beacon School and VFW charities.


- To the recent announcements of several businesses closing, including The Other Place and Wizard’s Guild in the uptown area. It is important that residents support local businesses. Our communities thrive by having unique, local shops like these.
