The prestigious P.E.O. STAR Scholarship, for the 2019-2020 academic year, was presented to Sylvie Wilson, a senior at Athens High School, by P.E.O. Athens Chapter DD at the AHS Awards Night on May 16. She has been accepted and will attend Stanford University this fall where she plans to study environmental engineering.
Sylvie is the projected valedictorian of the class of 2019 at Athens High School. Her interest in women’s issues led her to volunteer at Rock ‘n’ Roll Camp for Girls in Portland, Oregon, to start Tech Club for Girls to foster girls’ early interest in STEM fields, and to mentor young girls as a Big Sister. She has won many awards for her research on acid mine drainage for science fair, is an accomplished classical pianist, competes at the varsity level in three sports, runs her own small business, and is an avid hiker and backpacker.
