STAR Academy

Ohio Attorney General, Dave Yost, presented a recognition award Thursday to the STAR Academy at Hocking College. AG Yost stands in the middle of the picture. The Academy Commander, Roger Deardorff stands on the right. The rest of the group are current members of the academy. Yost gave an inspirational talk to the group, then presented the award to Deardorff. The STAR designation is awarded to agencies that go above and beyond in their basic training of peace officers, passing a rigorous review of its policies and methods by the Ohio Peace Officer Training Committee. (OPOTA) The Hocking College Police Academy was established in 1968. Students of the program have achieved professional distinction over the years, including OPOTA director, Mary Davis, a graduate of the Academy.
