Two Alexander High School students will be participating in the 2022 annual session of Buckeye Girls State at Mount Union University in Alliance.

The session begins Sunday and concludes on June 18.

The two delegates who will represent their schools, the American Legion Auxiliary and their communities are Hazel Chmiel and Jaelyn Jones.

Chmiel is the daughter of Chris Chmiel and Michelle Gormah. She is a member of the Alexander marching band, the science olympiad team and the French Club. She is also a member of the National Honor Society.

Jones is the daughter of Amy Jago and granddaughter of William and Karen Jago. She was selected as liaison for Alexander’s Red Cross partnership and maintained academic honor roll throughout high school while also participating in athletics. She is also a member of the National Honor Society.

Buckeye Girls State is a fast-paced program of mock government at the state, county and city levels. The main objective of the program is to train young women who have completed their junior year in high school in the duties, rights and privileges of citizenship by providing the attendee the opportunity to actively participate in a democratic form of government.
