100th Birthday – Julia Nehls

Julia Nehls came to Athens and to Ohio University in 1948 to get her graduate degree in Preschool Education. She got her degree and then got a job in Athens and has been here ever since. Now she is celebrating her 100th birthday. A big crowd of friends and relations gathered in her front yard in Athens for her centennial celebration. There was even a small parade of vehicles including fire trucks that passed by her house beeping and waving in honor of the occasion. Julia spent many happy years with the children of Athens at Ohio University’s Putnam Nursery School, which changed their name to Nursery Childcare Center, which is now known as Child Development Center. Whatever you call it, Julia was there right from the beginning. She loved kids and the kids loved her. Somewhere in this crowd of people are three boys (now grown men) she raised as her own. Happy 100th Birthday Julia!
