The 2018 Athens County Fair is still several weeks away, but it’s never too early to glance over the events, games and rides on tap.

The fair is introducing a new ride company for this year — Deshler Amusements, based out of Wellsville, Ohio (a river town near Steubenville). There are many other traditional events returning for another year with a few additions thrown in.

The fair opens with pari-mutual harness racing on Friday, Aug. 3 and Saturday, Aug. 4. There are a few other events that first weekend, including the Jr. Fair Parade, music by The Sheppard Brothers and a corn hole tournament all on Sunday, Aug. 5.

The fair begins in earnest on Monday, Aug. 6 and runs through that Saturday, Aug. 11. Daily admission is $10 per person over 2 years old.

Rides generally run from around noon to 11 p.m. each day.

Highlights from the week include:

  • Monday — Fast Traxx Motocross; Little Kids Bike Parade
  • Tuesday — Tough Track
  • Wednesday — Rodeo
  • Thursday — Kiddie Tractor Pull; Iron Chef; Demolition Derby
  • Friday — Ultimate Showmanship; Livestock Sale; Horse Pull; Little Tykes and Garden Tractor Demolition Derby
