A Nelsonville man faces four sexual assault charges involving two teenage girls.
Brandon Thomas Humphrey, 18, was indicted by an Athens County grand jury for charges of rape, a first-degree felony; sexual battery, a third-degree felony; gross sexual imposition, a fourth-degree felony; and unlawful sexual conduct with a minor, a first-degree misdemeanor.
Humphrey was arraigned in Athens County Common Pleas Court on Wednesday and pleaded innocent to all four charges. Judge George McCarthy set his bond at $100,000, with no 10 percent allowed.
According to a news release from the Athens County Prosecutor’s Office, Humphrey allegedly engaged in sexual conduct with a 15-year-old female without her consent on July 9 and engaged in sexual conduct with a different 15-year-old female on July 3. Humphrey turned 18 the month before those reported incidents.
Athens County Assistant Prosecutor Elizabeth Pepper claimed that Humphrey appeared to have a pattern of targeting younger girls with sexual conduct.
“They’re all basically a similar pattern of activity,” she alleged in court. “The girl falls asleep and he sexually assaults them.”
Pepper said three of the charges involve one of the reported victims, while the fourth involves the other. She also told the judge that two more people have come forward with allegations against Humphrey. However, Pepper added that Humphrey was also underage during those alleged interactions. She said those allegations are under investigation and that no charges to this point have been filed related to them.
Along with the bond, McCarthy also ordered Humphrey not to have contact with the victims and with one of their families; he had reportedly lived with that family during the time of the alleged assault. Humphrey is to be placed on house arrest if bond is posted.
The case was investigated by the Athens County Sheriff’s Office and Athens County Children Services.
