An Ohio University wrestler who collapsed Sunday afternoon during a home meet is recovering and doing well, according to OU Athletics.
Austin Reese, of Urbana, Ohio, was wrestling against Old Dominion when he reportedly collapsed on the mat. OU Athletics staff members administered CPR and then used a defibrillator machine to revive Reese, a redshirt junior on the team.
Reese was reportedly not breathing, according to eyewitnesses on hand, though he was said to have been conscious and responding to treatment by the time emergency medical personnel transported him by ambulance to a local hospital.
Dozens of well-wishers used social media to extend their best wishes for a full and speedy recovery, with those on Twitter using the hashtag #PRAYFORREESE. One photo posted on social media and shared to the OU Wrestling Facebook page showed Reese smiling in his hospital bed.
Three matches were completed before the home meet was canceled. The dual meet will not be made up.
