A third defendant involved in a heroin and cocaine trafficking ring in Athens County has pleaded guilty and agreed to testify against the others allegedly involved.
Kelly Marie Cox, 44, of Glouster, pleaded guilty to a single count of engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity at a hearing on Wednesday. The charge carries a maximum sentence of 11 years in prison.
As part of the agreement, Cox would be subject to possible additional charges if she violates the terms of the arrangement.
A joint sentencing recommendation stated in court by Athens County Assistant Prosecutor Meg Saunders calls for Cox to be placed on five years of community control with an 11-year underlying prison sentence should she violate the probation. Cox is scheduled to be sentenced on Sept. 10.
Cox must complete evaluations for treatment facilities and a pre-sentence investigation before the sentencing hearing.
Gerald Hammon Jr. and Cary Losey have already entered guilty pleas to their roles in the drug ring. In pleading guilty, both have agreed to testify truthfully against their co-defendants as well.
Hammon pleaded guilty to the single count of engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity, a first-degree felony.
Losey was indicted on charges of engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity and four counts of trafficking in heroin. She pleaded guilty to all five charges against her.
Alleged ring leaders Megan Vore, 25, and Anthony Spears, 35, are charged with numerous felony counts in connection with the case including, engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity, money laundering, trafficking in heroin, possession of heroin, having weapons under disability, possessing criminal tools, operating a vehicle with a hidden compartment, tampering with evidence, and possession of cocaine.
Leesha Santek, 28, Kevin Degarmore, 22, Robert Degarmore, 53, Jeffrey Degarmore, 44, Ronnie Degarmore, 51, Amy Degarmore, 33, Richard Losey, 36, Patricia Nichole Vore, 29, Kelly Marie Cox, 44, and are each charged with engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity among others. John Losey, 31, is charged with trafficking in heroin and possessing criminal tools. All of the above are from Glouster while Megan Vore and Spears are from Nelsonville.
