ODOT is reporting high water on the following roadways:

  • County Road 4 (Glen Ebon), between Routes 33 and 691
  • County Road 17 (Fisher), between McGrath and Chase Roads
  • County Road 58 (Frost), between Route 50 and Twp. Frost Road 
  • County Road 59 (Four Mile), between Route 144 and Ridge Road 
  • County Road 109 (Beebe), from county line to Jewell Road
  • Route 56, between Laurelville and Vinton County line (restricted)
  • Route 56, between Vinton County line and Athens city limits (restricted)
  • Route 144, between Routes 50 and 329 (closed)
  • Route 278, between Nelsonville and Route 595 (closed)
  • Route 328, between Route 56 and Route 33 (restricted)
  • Route 595, between Route 278 and Perry County line (restricted)
  • Route 681, between Routes 356 and 50 (restricted)

The Athens County Emergency Management Agency has issued a flood alert for the county, with heavy rain expected into the weekend.

Several highways are closed due to high water as of 9 a.m., according to the Ohio Department of Transportation. Closed highways include:

  • Route 56, between Vinton County line and Athens city limits
  • Route 144, between Routes 50 and 329
  • Route 329, between Routes 50 and 144
  • Route 329, between Routes 144 and 550
  • Route 329, between Routes 550 and 13
  • Route 356, between Routes 681 and 56
  • Route 377, between Route 550 and Morgan County line
  • Route 550, between Routes 329 and 377

There are two highways with restricted/partial access:

  • Route 681, between Routes 356 and 50
  • Route 685, between Routes 78 and 13

Officials have also reported high water on several county roads:
