A man initially charged with a robbery at Hocking College pleaded guilty Tuesday in Athens County Common Pleas Court to a reduced charge.

Brevin Tyus, 20, of Maple Heights, was placed on five years community control, with an underlying prison sentence of 12 months.

Tyus was originally indicted on a charge of robbery, a third-degree felony, but the charge was reduced to fifth-degree felony theft, to which he pleaded guilty.

As part of his sentence, he was ordered to pay $1,600 restitution to Lonnie Williams.

Tyus was accused of taking the money during an incident last September at a Hocking College residence hall. Williams had gotten the $1,600 from cashing an overage check, according the county prosecutor’s office.
