ALBANY — Roger E. VanDyke, 95, of Albany, passed away Thursday, July 4, 2019, at his residence.
Born in Athens County on Jan. 24, 1924, he was the son of the late Arthur O. and Nancy Ethel Townsend Van Dyke. He was retired from Diamond Stone Quarries, an Army Air Corp Veteran of WWII, he was a former clerk of Albany School Board of Education, and former clerk for Lee Township Trustees, a member of Albany United Methodist Church, a 60 year member and past Master and Secretary of the Albany Masonic Lodge #723 F&AM, past President of the Secretary Association of the Grand Lodge of Ohio, he had held several offices of District 17, he was Coronetted Sept. 25, 1985 to the 33rd degree in Detroit, Michigan and was an Honorary member of the Supreme Council, a member of Anchient and Excepted Scottish Rite Valley of Columbus 32 degree, York Rite, Aladdin Temple Shrine, and Athens County Shrine Club.
He is survived by his wife of 76 years, Katherine Marie Pickett VanDyke; daughters, Judith (Steve) Escue of Bucyrus, Ohio, Sharon (Paul) Mathias of Cambridge, Ohio, and Janet (Tony) Sayers of Albany; 12 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren; a sister, Mary Graham of The Plains; a brother, Donald (Ann) VanDyke of Winchester, Virginia; and his faithful, loyal poodle, Scooter.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Larry VanDyke; sisters, Lucille (Jerry) Carter and Jeanne (David) Rose; a brother, Edward (Edith) VanDyke; and brother-in-law, Lloyd Graham.
Services will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Bigony-Jordan Funeral Home, with Pastor Bert Christian officiating. Burial will be in Temple Cemetery, with military graveside services by Albany VFW Post 9893, KT Crossen Post 21 American Legion.
Visitation will be Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., with Masonic services at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
