ALBANY — Vicky Jo Adkins, 64, Albany passed away unexpectedly, but peacefully on Thursday April 18, 2019 at her home.
Vicky was born Dec. 3, 1954 in Athens County, the daughter of the late Paul and Jennie “Kit” Evener. She was married to the love of her life and high school sweetheart, Charlie Adkins, for 48 years. Their love story started when they were just 16 years old. The bond they shared was unbreakable and their love for one another was beautiful.
Vicky raised two daughters, who she was very close to and loved fiercely. They weren’t just mother and daughters, but also the best of friends. She in- stilled, by example, a strong work ethic. She always worked hard and often long hours, to help provide for her family over the years. She was a painter at Ohio University, from where she retired. She was really passionate about her work and she loved doing it.
Vicky had a personality like no other. She was caring and dedicated to those she loved. She could make you laugh, no matter the situation. Vicky was very protective of her family and so proud of her kids and grandkids. They were everything to her. She loved Myrtle Beach, her favorite activity was being in her beach chair, with her toes in the sand, waves at her feet with the sun shining bright. That was her little slice of heaven.
Vicky is survived by, and leaves many years of precious memories to be cherished by her loving and devoted husband Charlie Adkins, her two daughters who adored her, Jenny Adkins of The Plains and Tracy (Shawn) Wirick of Albany; her four grandchildren, who were her pride and joy, Kelsi Cummings of Columbus, Kylie Cummings of The Plains, Jacob Wirick (Kina Milum) of Athens, and PV2 Wirick, Brandon Paul of Fairbanks, Alaska; her two precious great-grandchildren Gavin Canter and Averi Bulstrom, who she loved to the moon and back; her two sisters and a brother, Paulette Chalfant of The Plains, Joyce (John) McKenzie of Athens, and Danny (Renee) Evener of Deltona, Florida. Vicky will also be sadly missed by several nieces, nephews, extended family/in-laws, and a very special friend Karen Perry.
Besides her parents Paul and Jennie “Kit” Evener, Vicky was preceded in death by her beautiful sister, Kimberly Mathias, and two nephews, Josh Evener and Kyle Evener.
Per Vicky’s request, a small and private family gathering was held at Bigony-Jordan Funeral Home on April 22, 2019. A special thanks to Darrell Cogar for speaking on behalf of the family. A celebration of life gathering will be held at a later date and will be announced in the near future.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation may be made to the Athens County Sheriff DARE Program.
