Friday, May 31

7:24 a.m., Buchtel — The sheriff’s office was dispatched to Second Street in Buchtel for a theft of a vehicle report. The vehicle was found abandoned a short time post-call. The vehicle was released to the owner and a report was taken.

12:05 p.m., Nelsonville — Deputies took a burglary report on Taylor Road in Nelsonville. A residence was broken into and several firearms, a curve screen TV, and two dirt bikes were stolen from the home. A driver’s license and social security card (of a possible suspect) were found in the driveway as well as a mountain dew bottle which has been sent to BCI for touch DNA analysis. This case is currently under investigation.

2:54 p.m., Athens — The sheriff’s office located a green van that appeared to be broken down while patrolling Route 33 near East State Street. Once the deputy contacted the male in the vehicle, it was found that he had a warrant for his arrest. Brady Terry, age 22 of Chauncey was placed under arrest for said warrant.

11:28 p.m., Torch — The Athens County Sheriff’s Office was advised by the Washington County Sheriff’s Office that they had obtained a subject with an active Athens County warrant. Deputies took custody of Arden R. Stewart, age 26, of Pomeroy and transported him to regional jail without incident.

Saturday, June 1

9:41 a.m., Athens — The sheriff’s office received word of a small horse that ran from the Wildwood Lane area to AEP on Route 682. Units first observed the horse running near Vore Ridge Road and had ran into a field entering AEP property. Patrolman Flick with the Athens Police Department arrived and was eventually able to get the horse to come to him.

11:12 a.m., Hockingport — The sheriff’s office took a report of a Dutchman pop-up camper stolen from a Hockingport residence. The camper registration was added into LEADs as stolen. If anyone has information regarding the location of the camper and or the suspect(s), call the Athens County Sheriff’s Office.

9:58 p.m., The Plains — The Criminal Interdiction Unit observed a male who was suspected of having warrants for his arrest at The Plains Valero. Deputies requested a warrant check on Teddy Carpenter, age 41, of Murray City who had an active warrant for his arrest through Hocking County. Carpenter was arrested and transported to regional jail without incident.

Sunday, June 2

10:29 a.m., New Marshfield — The Criminal Interdiction Unit contacted a female at a Steinmeyer Road residence in New Marshfield. While speaking with the female, a sawed-off shot gun was observed in her vehicle. Deputies took control of the weapon and placed the female in investigative detention. Consent to search the vehicle was then gained. Upon searching the vehicle, multiple items were located that indicated drug abuse. Several items were collected as evidence. Multiple felony charges are expected to be filed.

Sunday, June 2

11:29 p.m., Route 682 — During a traffic stop on Route 682, a citation was issued to Josh P. McCoy for driving under non-compliance suspension. Derek M. Cottrill was transported to Southeast Ohio Regional Jail on a warrant out of Athens County. Contraband was collected for further investigation.
