Thursday, May 16
8:48 a.m., Athens — Deputies received a report someone had entered the basement of the Poston United Methodist Church on Route 550. A report was taken.
3:20 p.m., Athens — The sheriff’s office received a report from a Cable Lane resident that someone had drilled a hole in his fuel tank while he was parked on Route 690. He initially thought it was a mechanical issue until the repair shop discovered hole had been drilled.
3:35 p.m., Chauncey — Deputies responded to Jacobs Avenue in Chauncey for a theft of medication report. The victim reported multiple pills from multiple medication bottles had been stolen. No timeline of the events or leads to investigate were available. The incident was documented for further use.
4:24 p.m., Athens — Deputies arrested Rachel Morley, age 27, of Athens for an active arrest warrant. She was transported to the regional jail without incident.
Friday, May 17
9:53 a.m., United Lane — The sheriff’s office was dispatched to AllPower Equipment on United Lane for a stolen tractor report. Deputies arrived and took a report; the tractor has been marked as stolen.
Saturday, May 18
12:23 a.m., Shade — The Athens County Sheriff’s Office responded to Old Route 33 for a report of an inactive burglary. The complainant reported someone entered his home and stole multiple items from his residence. This case is pending further investigation.
5:19 a.m., Buchtel — Deputies were dispatched to a North Akron Avenue residence in Buchtel for a report of a theft. A report was taken and is on file.
6:52 a.m., Coolville — The Athens County Sheriff’s Office responded to two burglary reports on Huckleberry Road in Coolville. The victims were related, and the suspect was a relative. Upon checking the second house, Donnie Van Brocklin, of Michigan was found in the garage. Van Brocklin had multiple self-inflicted cuts and stab wounds to his body claiming he was being chased by people. This apparently started after using an unknown drug and in an attempt to get away from them, he broke into both houses. Van Brocklin was transported to the hospital and eventually flown to Columbus. This case is still under investigation.
10:24 a.m., Albany — The Athens County Sheriff’s Office arrested James Hannah, age 52, of Cleveland at Lake Snowden. Hannah was wanted by the Adult Parole Authority for failing to comply with the terms and conditions of his parole and sex offender registration.
11:47 a.m., Coolville — Deputies recovered a stolen vehicle from Washington County on Brimstone Road in Coolville. The Washington County Sheriff’s Office was made aware of the recovery and the investigation is ongoing.
3:26 p.m., Athens — Deputies responded to South Canaan Road for a theft report. The complainant advised a chainsaw had been recently taken from his property. Deputies spoke with the complainant about the incident and a report was filed.
5:30 p.m., The Plains — The Athens County Sheriff’s Office took a complaint via phone of a possible attempt of identity theft. The caller advised she had received a phone call from an unknown person claiming they were from the Social Security Administration and that the caller’s information had been compromised. They were requesting the caller to contact a number they provided. The caller advised that she did not give out any personal information. Deputies attempted to call the number that was supplied but the number was since out of service. Anyone else receiving similar calls is encouraged to report suspicious activity.
8:58 p.m., Jacksonville — The Criminal Interdiction Unit conducted a traffic stop on Main Street in Jacksonville for an equipment violation. Deputies identified the driver as Shawn Gallagher, age 37, of Nelsonville as the driver with a suspended license and showing active warrants for his arrest. K-9 Bora was deployed and indicated on the vehicle. A search was conducted yielding items suspected as methamphetamines. A passenger, Misty Withrow, age 35, of Nelsonville, was also arrested and charged with Aggravated Possession of Drugs. Withrow was transported to the regional jail and booked on possession charges; Gallagher was transported to OUPD, where he made bond.
Sunday, May 19
11:54 a.m., Athens — The Criminal Interdiction Unit was dispatched to Vore Ridge Road in reference to a stolen side-by-side utility task vehicle loaded onto a trailer. Deputies contacted a male later identified as Ray Brown, age 31, of Athens and detained him. The side-by-side was confirmed as stolen and later towed by Autotech Towing to the sheriff’s office county garage. Brown was transported to regional jail without incident and booked on charges of tampering with evidence and held on a $10,000 bond.

Sunday, May 19
1:48 a.m., Washington Street — Officers charged James C. Young for disorderly conduct by intoxication and transported him to the regional jail.
Saturday, May 18
5:11 p.m., Carpenter Street — APD received a report of a theft of an electric Budweiser sign stolen from Broney’s Alumni Grill that took place on May 14. A report was taken.
Sunday, May 19
10:21 a.m., West Union Street — APD responded to 235 W. Union St. for a report of a vehicle exhaust theft. A report was taken.
11:23 a.m., West Union Street — APD responded to a criminal damaging report. The driver’s side tires had been slashed on the victim’s vehicle as it was parked behind the Cat’s Corner bar. A report was taken and an investigation is ongoing.
