The Athens Lady Bulldogs fell 55-37 to Lancaster over the weekend to kick off their season.
Neither team shot particularly well but that’s expected as games roll out of November. What was so damaging to Athens on Saturday though was their lack of three-point shooting. The team went 1-18 shooting from beyond the arc, otherwise they were able to hit 44% of their two-point attempts and were 10-15 from the free throw line.
All seven players for Athens scored at least a point in the loss. Asa Holcombe led all scorers with 19 points, shooting 7-10 from the field while grabbing three rebounds and snagging three steals. Ella Chapman was the only other Lady Bulldog to have more than four points. The freshman had eight points on 3-14 from the field.
Lancaster had a balanced attack with all three of Ky Pugh, Molly Stedman and Peyton Wilson all recording double-digit points.
Still looking to grab their first win of the season, the Lady Bulldogs are back at home on Thursday for a 7:30 p.m. matchup with Wellston.
