The Southern Ohio Copperheads are in the win column for the first time in 2019.
The Copperheads broke a late-inning tie, leading to a 6-3 victory at Licking County’s Don Edwards Stadium.
Each team is 1-1 after Licking County won the season opener on Tuesday, 3-1.
Wednesday’s game was tied at 2-2 before Southern Ohio scored a run in the eighth, then three in the top of the ninth. The Settlers scored a run in the bottom of the ninth.
Sebastian Fabik paced the offense, going 3 for 4 with a double, two singles and a walk. He also drove in a run and scored a run.
Reese Trahey was 2 for 5 for the Copperheads, while Thomas Zazzaro had two RBIs.
Jake Hansen got the start for Southern Ohio and pitched five innings. He allowed only one run on six hits and four walks, striking out three.
Nick Kaiser and Zazzaro gave Southern Ohio a strong effort out of the bullpen.
Kaiser pitched three innings, giving up one run on three hits and a walk. He struck out two.
Zazzaro pitched the ninth, giving up a run on a hit, striking out two.
Southern Ohio scored two runs in the top of the second to lead 2-0. The Settlers added single runs in the third and sixth inning to tie the game.
Southern Ohio overcame four errors in the win, but it only led to one unearned run.
Casimer Sobaszek, Stephen Krause and Nate Meyer each had two-hit games for Licking County.
