Southern Ohio broke out of a three-game losing skid with a 7-2 win at Grand Lake on Tuesday night at Montgomery Field.
The Copperheads (5-8) never trailed, and led 7-0 after six innings.
Thomas Zazzaro, who is also emerging as the top starting pitcher on the staff, jump-started the offense with a perfect 5-for-5 night at the plate while playing second base. Zazzaro also belted a solo home run.
Daniel Cruz added a three-run homer in the fourth to give Southern Ohio a 4-0 lead. Lucas Nasonti had three hits and a pair of a doubles, and Scott Combs added two hits and two RBI. Southern Ohio piled up a season-high 15 hits.
Grand Lake (4-5) was held to just five hits. Southern Ohio starter Zach Iverson (1-0) earned his first win of the summer by pitching six innings, and gave up just two hits and no runs to go along with seven strikeouts. Iverson now has 21 strikeouts over 17 innings this season.
Josh Currier (0-1) took the loss for the Mariners after being charged with five runs on 10 hits over six innings.
The Copperheads were scheduled to play again at Grand Lake on Wednesday, and will open a four-game homestand on Thursday night against Muskegon (5-7) at Bob Wren Stadium at 7:05 p.m.
