Southern Ohio’s trip to Canada wasn’t a winning one.
The Copperheads lost to the St. Clair Green Giants, 7-2, in a Great Lakes Summer Collegiate Game on Wednesday.
The Green Giants are the only GLSCL team located in Canada. The Copperheads were on a five-game winning streak before being swept in a two-game series at St. Clair’s Lacasse Field.
Southern Ohio falls to 9-10 overall, while St. Clair improves to 8-7.
Southern Ohio scored twice in the first inning on Wednesday, then were shut down the rest of the way.
St. Clair’s Jancarlo Llaser earned the win, improving to 2-1 on the season. He allowed a pair of earned runs on three hits in six innings. He didn’t walk a batter, striking out four.
Travis Snyder, Stephen Streltzoff and Steven Butts each pitched a scoreless inning of relief for the Green Giants.
Sam Wirsing (1-2) took the loss for Southern Ohio. He pitched six innings, giving up six runs on eight hits and a walk. Only three of the runs were earned, as he struck out three.
Southern Ohio led 2-0. The first run scored on Sebastian Fabik’s RBI double. He later scored on Carter Cross’ RBI groundout.
St. Clair scored twice in the third, once in the fourth and three times in the fifth to lead 6-2.
Alex Crump’s two-run double tied the game at 2-2 in the third. Spencer Marcus’ RBI single in the fourth gave St. Clair a 3-2 edge.
Jayden Sinju hit an RBI single in the fifth, followed by Daniel Warkentin’s two-run double.
The Green Giants added an insurance run in the eighth when Crump’s single scored Sami Baig.
Crump finished with two hits and three RBIs. Sinju, Spencer Marcus and Trevor Omahen all had two-hit games for St. Clair.
Southern Ohio will travel for another two-game road series against the Galion Graders on Thursday and Friday.
The Copperheads will return home to Bob Wren Stadium on Saturday and Sunday against the Lima Locos. First pitch on Saturday is slated for 7:05 p.m., while Sunday’s game will begin at 5:35 p.m.
