The Ohio baseball team wasn’t able to hold onto a late lead on Tuesday against an in-state rival.
Ohio State scored seven runs in the last three innings, leading to a 10-8 win over the Bobcats inside Bob Wren Stadium.
The Bobcats trailed 3-0 before scoring five runs in the fourth and two more in the fifth to lead 7-3.
Ohio State posted a run in the seventh, then three more in the eighth to tie the game at 7-7.
Ohio scored in the bottom of the eighth to go ahead, only to see Ohio State score three runs in the top of the ninth.
Ohio State improves to 17-16, while Ohio falls to 8-22.
The Bobcats got a solid outing from starting pitcher Joe Rock. He went 6 2-3 innings, allowing four runs — three earned — on seven hits and two walks. He struck out three.
Ohio used six pitchers out of the bullpen, none working more than 2-3 of an inning. Brett Manis took the loss, giving up three runs in the ninth. He worked 2-3 of an inning, allowing three hits and a walk.
Eamon Horwedel allowed three runs on two hits and a walk without retiring a batter in the eighth.
Chace Harris recorded the final out of the ninth.
The Buckeyes used four pitcher, with Andrew Magno earning the win. He pitched the final 1 1-3 innings of shutout baseball. He allowed a hit, striking out two.
Rudy Rott led Ohio’s offense by going 3 for 4 with an RBI and two runs scored. He hit a double and a home run.
Cole Revels was 2 for 4 with a run and five RBIs for Ohio.
Brent Todys was 3 for 4 for Ohio State, with two runs and four RBIs. He hit a double and a home run. Nolan Clegg also connected on a home run, going 2 for 4 with two runs and two RBIs.
Ohio will return home for a weekend Mid-American Conference series against Toledo. The first pitch on Friday is scheduled for 6 p.m.
